CNET 100: We pick our favorite Android apps

Over the next 10 business days, 10 CNET personalities will publish their 10 favorite Android apps. Check back each day to see our top picks and vote on your favorite. We start off with cell phones section editor Kent German.

Kent German Former senior managing editor / features
Kent was a senior managing editor at CNET News. A veteran of CNET since 2003, he reviewed the first iPhone and worked in both the London and San Francisco offices. When not working, he's planning his next vacation, walking his dog or watching planes land at the airport (yes, really).

Almost a year ago, we offered our list of the best iPhone apps as chosen by CNET editors. Picks from the CNET 100 series included titles of almost every kind from the insanely addictive (like Angry Birds) to the strictly practical (Still Tasty, anyone?).

Of course, Apple's iOS can't have all the fun so this year the CNET 100 gives Android its due attention. Just like last year, a different CNET personality will showcase his or her 10 favorite Android apps each day for the next 10 business days (today through Friday, July 22). And with each post, you'll have the opportunity to vote for your own favorite title. Then, once the series is over, we'll collect the full list of 100 apps and announce the 10 that you, our readers, love the most.

I'll kick off the 2011 CNET 100 with my top Android picks. If you've followed me on CNET, you'll know when I'm not writing about cell phones, I'm writing about commercial aviation. So it's only natural that aviation-related aviation apps found their way onto my list. I got some flak from readers for doing the same with my iPhone apps, but these are my picks, after all, so I'm not going change now. I'm not much of a gamer, as you'll see, but I am a fan of apps that help me plan my next vacation and titles that deliver both useful and occasionally useless facts.
