Back To The Future Nike Air Mag shoes sold on eBay
1,500 pairs of the Nike Air Mags from Back To The Future II will be sold on eBay, with all profits going to the Michael J Fox Foundation.
It's official: 1,500 pairs of those epic Back To The Future Nike Air Mag trainers will be sold, starting in just a few hours. Yes, just a few hours. Good luck getting any work done...
They're being sold through nikemag.ebay.com, and the good news is all the profits will go to the Michael J Fox Foundation, a charity whose aim is the eradication of Parkinson's disease. Don't worry if you miss out before the weekend, as 150 pairs will be up for grabs every day on eBay until 18 September.
The auction begins Friday at 12.30pm UK time. Should make for an interesting lunchtime.
The Air Mags are the first rechargeable pair of Nike trainers ever made, and are an exact replica of those in Back To The Future II -- but sadly without the power laces. They have the same upper contours, glowing LED panel, and electroluminescent Nike logo in the strap. Pinch the ear of the high top and they'll illuminate, glowing for 5 hours per charge. A-maz-ing.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojcicki pledged to match all donations to the Michael J Fox Foundation up to $50m through to the end of 2012.
"This project is exciting to me because it brings together three very passionate audiences: the Parkinson's community, the sneakerheads and the Back To The Future fans," Fox said. He was said to be appearing on the Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday evening to make an announcement.
Mark Parker, Nike CEO, said, "We wanted to translate the excitement people have for the 'greatest shoe never made' and for Back To The Future into positive action. But the long term objective is to raise awareness so the Foundation can achieve their goal of eradicating Parkinson's disease."
Now all we need is a hoverboard and our childhood dreams will have come true.
