Apple makes iWork apps free for new iOS devices

Apple will give away the suite of productivity apps to anyone who buys a new iOS device.

Apple is giving away iWork, its suite of mobile productivity apps, if it's for a new device, CEO Tim Cook announced Tuesday.

Cook went over the iWork apps -- which include Keynotes, Pages, Numbers, iMovie, and iPhoto -- at Apple's special event in Cupertino, Calif., where the company also introduced two new iPhones.

"With one touch, boom, all five of these apps are downloaded for you, and some additional ones," he said.

The apps are free with any new iOS device. This includes iPads, iPhones, and fifth-generation iPod Touches. Cook called iWork Apple's best-selling mobile productivity suite, that makes its mobile devices "incredible for creating content," not just consuming it.

"We think that iWork is a really key advantage for a customer's productivity, and that iPhoto and iMovie are great for their creativity," he said. "No other platform has apps like these. We think all iOS devices are made better if they have these apps."
