Ever since Sprint got its HTC Touch Pro in early November, the rest of the cell phone community (non-Sprint users) has been getting a little antsy to find out when they might be able to get their hands on the Windows Mobile smartphone. If you're looking for a portable, does-it-all supergadget, you need look no further than the Cowon Q5W. The Q5W may look like a harmless portable video player, but it's really an ultraportable mobile computer in disguise. The Cowon Q5W runs Windows CE5, and integrates futuristic features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and an optional GPS cradle for in-car navigation. At $549 (40GB) and $599 (60GB), the Q5W doesn't come cheap, but when you tally up the all the features Cowon crammed into this thing, the value seems relatively stupefying.


The next-gen Zune Marketplace makes a sharp departure from its Windows Media Player roots, embracing a clean, minimalist design with engaging visual imagery. As it's notably different from the standard jukeboxes, it takes a little getting used to, but it will please the eye in the interim.

Toshiba's Gigabeat T is a smaller, lighter, less expensive version of one of our favorite MP3 players, the Gigabeat S. Its luxurious Windows Portable Media Center interface, excellent audio quality, and crisp, bright QVGA screen make it standout performer. Unfortunately, limited storage capacity and lack of memory expansion hold it back from greatness.
