This story is part of To the Moon, a series exploring humanity's first journey to the lunar surface and our future living and working on the moon.
A 6-foot, 3-inch Lego statue based on the first astronauts who stepped on the moon was unveiled Tuesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch on July 16, 1969.
The statue, built by the toy company, replicates the astronaut suits worn during the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. The GIF below shows the final steps in its assembly.
The design includes a reflection of the moon in the astronaut's helmet. The statue will be on display for the National Air and Space Museum's Apollo 50 Festival in Washington, DC, from Thursday through Saturday.
