Your questions about the Bugatti Chiron answered

Cars
[MUSIC] Welcome to a very special Special episode of your questions answered in Bugatti Chiron, we're on the way up to luxury car week. Pebble Beach. Some of you might know. It's my first time there what a way to travel on the Pacific Coast Highway. And then this is pretty amazing. And we've got all your questions, which we'll get to in a minute, but I should introduce the person that is sitting next to me. Opps! should i sing? Now you, are gonna have the very quick possible you've won Daytona 24 Rolex 24 three times. That's right. I don't see [UNKNOWN] The Benteley Boys when they were there 2001. Choose a right. That's right. And you race with somebody that we've shared a video on this channel before might recognize is Andy Wallace. [LAUGH] Yes, I've spent quite a bit of my time pairing up I put them in. It was a horrible experience because of time. And you now like it, you sort of demonstrated to customers and potential customers, I suppose when you're doing all that in North America. Exactly, yes. I take care of masses in North America and he sometimes cover in [INAUDIBLE] as well. And they do Europe and the rest of the world So, as we're in North America let's just say a few things are shown in North America. He has a few things that are slightly different compared to the other ones in Europe, and some of the rest of the world. Could you just highlight some of the difference of this car. There's not many things that changed from place to place, but the most obvious things that we have The rear bumpers. They stick out quite a bit. And that is actually a insurance requirement. It's not even a federal highway thing. It's actually part of the insurance association. So those have to be on the car by the supplier to North America. Other than that, there's some side markers that are unique to North America. So what are you gonna do? We should get to the questions.>> Yes good, all right. First question, what's the best interior detail?>> Best interior detail, for me the details, and I love the whole issue in here but I am a big fun of this switch down here on the stearing wheel, which goes into a different choice of Remote, so just the feel of it, cuz that's something I think is always really quite hard to get across to people, is just the tactility, the engineering, just the quality behind the whole car, and the feel of it, the touch. And everything you touch, even the vents, when the air conditioning. Everything has a very positive feel, it's not Not like you expect to feel like a plastic click click. Very a very high quality center console. I mean it looks fairly straightforward. Yeah, but easier is elevating. Yeah. And that is surrounded by carbon and the expansion rate rates. And so, you know, the danger would be this The expanded in so many ways so it expands in the right way and doesn't cause any family and everything. Next question. Next question. Does it hide its weight and size on the road? Was sort of another video for this. So I did a video last year in fact with that [INAUDIBLE] I had the unfortunate pleasure of sitting where you are now. And we took it to some twisty roads to see just how it was in that sort of environment. And it's a mystery. You can't really disguise the sort of weight of this car, which is just creepy afterwards. Is two tons entirely and particularly the huge engine that is behind me. There is a sense of satisfaction knowing you have got it behind you but it wouldn't necessarily be as quick if it didn't have weight because of the extra traction and that sort of thing. There is also a sense of quality. The with the car that waves this much most of light weight [UNKNOWN] So we get that luck [UNKNOWN] This has advantage solid feel [UNKNOWN] 2012. [UNKNOWN] Yours have been planted [UNKNOWN] You don't feel like you're skipping across the surface. You're going to be in the surface as your driving, but also your point, it is a fairly big care. When look at the specs and you see the weight of it, I think it can paint a picture in people's minds that every time you turn the wheel you're going to feel it. It was a big transfer of whiteness. Cannot wait for that to happen, where you don't get that feeling. [INAUDIBLE] No, it's not sluggish. Yes, yes. Next question. Is there any chance to see a Chiron with an open top in the future? Wow, I think the initial answer to that was no. But I believe, if it was to implement is said that potentially that might be one. But for now, thank you for asking that question because it leads us deeply into talking about this particular feature job experience, which is the sky view roof. As we go these two panels here, still smiling down the middle, which is rather nice, having a better way to talk Yeah, and actually, I'm going to forget what the actual weight is, but it actually it isn't actually gives you a little more of your head as well. [LAUGH] [INAUDIBLE] Right next queation What's the most expensive option?>> I think that's got to be the visible carbon. If I remember right I think it's about 350,000 for the entire car. Dollars? Dollars, 350,000 dollars yes. And I could be a little bit off on that so don't- No, they're already massive, 350,000, whatever, I haven't got 350,000. Whatever's [INAUDIBLE] it's fine. Yeah. I mean that's, cuz it takes a long time sort of matching the- Yeah it's so labor intensive so To do that because, you know, every any flaw that you see [UNKNOWN] is going to be obvious. So it's a lot of wasted effort. A lot of the work has to be thrown away and done again. Next time Next question. Next question is, how practical is it for long journey well [UNKNOWN] And it's about sort of probably turn offers, driving in terms of specs, it's today and as well as long journeys in these lands. Yeah it's very good for these [INAUDIBLE] and very good indeed. Certainly from my experience I think that is one of the things about this car competitor Calvin Calvin can go incredibly quickly went to build a car doesn't have the capability that you used to this does that that's going to drink isn't it kind of makes it nice for long to represent the configuration management Fairly low revenue source towards on low UXB talk from 2000 old web 6000. So it's quite happy to be running long and 1500 RPM on the highway and at 80 miles an hour. And you know you're not having to scream over behind you and getting a headache. It actually is when you can relax on a long trip like that. QP is given the size of the time is not ready in China noises in America.>> There was a big improvement that Michelin made from the around with the more conventional tires. Not only are they wider, more comfortable, more grip Absolutely.>> Can you tell us your average amount. Miles per gallon. Right, well, you can tell me how to find that out. Actually, yes, with your right thumb. Yes. Okay, cuz right now we're on car. I zeroed that this morning. Okay, so I can enhance that and it's done. You probably [UNKNOWN] 12.5 MPG [LAUGH] We've averaged 33 miles per hour and we've gone 290 miles of range, I think that's right. Right. So yes, next question please. Will it actually oversteer? Wow, I have been in an oversteering, sure. I have been in control of one. Sort of both under power and through momentum. So, yes it will, it did feel a little off course the drift mode. Alright, so we've talked about [UNKNOWN] handling mode, which increases the rate in places the [UNKNOWN] assumption actually, [UNKNOWN] [UNKNOWN] It allows it to get a certain amount of your before [UNKNOWN] building control [UNKNOWN] If you if you're driving it, like a racecar driver and are trying to kill the oversteer. It recognises that you dont want the oversteer so it'll kill it. So to get the oversteer, you have to be driving it in a little bit of an odd way. [LAUGH] You have to let it do its thing. Yes, absolutely. But yes, ultimately it will. Yes. And expression how frustratins is a 50MPH speed limit? Run on yes I brought that as a side [UNKNOWN] Buold for and governer suffiecient to equip today. Yes, specific highway is a very beautiful highway but is not brilliant. Suggested track.>> No. Could it be possible to be used as a daily driver? [SOUND] Yes. As a compasionate duty credentials [UNKNOWN] do you know any customers that use this? We do actually. We have some customers. We have a range. Sometimes customers buy the car, put it away, never drive it again, but we fortunately have quite a few customers who use it a lot, and some use it on a daily basis. When it was meant to be able to do this wasn't meant to be a special no kind of a certain window that you're in, because let's go out in the rain. Let's go out and doesn't make a pleasing sound yes The feet are down, you can hear the whistle building up and then lift it off suddenly and I'll give you a nice crack. [SOUND] [LAUGH] The problem is that sound's kind of intoxicating, and so and sometimes you just spend your time on the highway doing that That [NOISE] [NOISE] It does sound like waves crashing on a beach. [UNKNOWN] many times before. It really does. It's waves on a [UNKNOWN] shore. It almost has like an industrial revolution sound to me, kind of like a [UNKNOWN] release. Yes yes, so No, no get up when you start it from the outside it sounds a bit like a motorboat sound. [SOUND] [SOUND] So no, it's not the most musical of cars, but it is definitely interesting and intriguing, and has its own set of harmonics. Would you rather own a Chiron or an Evija? Then you noticed the 2,000 brake-horsepower motor [INAUDIBLE]. Well, [INAUDIBLE] produced, as far as I know, the working One ledger how you will sign is still quit. Sure its a virus and the heat of a car. But, they don't want agreement these days, is like they have a choice more than the half of Adam show. How about? I. [LAUGH] I like their answer, I like their answer. Infact dont worry. All right! Next one is, does it really deserve the respect? Respect it gets? Yes, yes, I think it does, and this was the same with the Veyron. It's nice cars, but as a feat of engineering and some of the things you've talked about before, and additionally you heard. The engineering beneath it, and the skill to get to Car to reach the speeds that it does, and for most of the things, whilst being able to drive easily around town, etc. It's not easy. Yes. And I think you have to love this car from an engineering, or respect this car from an engineering perspective. Despite the fact you might prefer an, I don't know, another [INAUDIBLE] three, purely from the driving perspective [UNKNOWN] engine and all those sort of things, but yet I think, regardless of whether this is a car that you actually decide to own in your garage. And that's certainly [INAUDIBLE], but I still respect it and admire what's going to making this car. It's easy to look at this Specifications and draw conclusions, and you can hear that well it's very easy to drive, is very docile. But I think when people heard that they probably usually think that is docile in comparison to a sledgehammer, but that's actually like driving. Driving an Audi around, as far as how easy it is. When we have prospective customers to drive the car, when they get behind the wheel, you can see they have a death grip on the steering wheel. There's waiting for this 1500 horsepower car to try to kill them. It's interesting, within ten meters of pulling away, they've already loosened up, because they exude this [INAUDIBLE]. It's a car. You're like, I know how to do this. It's not a missile that's looking for an excuse to bite me. No, it's not unhinged is it? [LAUGH] Yes. What's the single most important feature that adds to the Chiron experience? I think so I've seen this is sort of sends you over, over in Veyron, and to that extent because the engine fundamentally, I know there have been a huge number of changes to the engine, but the character the way that it gets on the road is still fundamentally quite similar You've got the usability that the Veyron has so it comes down to the handling and I think the steering is massive part of that is it's got much much better better steering than the Veyron for me. And again it makes it a car that's even yes this 50 mile an hour limit [INAUDIBLE] reaching that to give us a His frustration is very [UNKNOWN] because you're in a car that has such fun steering feedback, just waiting to, what the hell is it doing it makes it enjoyable kind of all the time. It's not a car that [UNKNOWN] service. Doesn't mean you can [UNKNOWN]. It is very easy to drive, but [UNKNOWN] either. On the steering, it's really interesting, in the development of the car. Both Andy and I went over, and we met the engineer who was in charge of the steering program. And the young guy, really switched on, really smart, and he had a great feel for what people want Wanted, as far the steering and the communication. Because like most power-assist, it just numbs the steering. And then it can make it stiffer, it make it less stiff. But still, you don't have a real communication with it. No. Where with this, they have all these different parameters coming through, and they're able to mimic a non-assisted rack [SOUND] And it makes it so that everything is only visual, you're actually able to actually have a feel through the steering wheel, what's happening on the front so you can feel the transfer of weight over the front axle. Which is something that's been pretty much impossible to get for a long time. Yes, absolutely. So yes, It's very hysteric, I think. Although, that was interesting that, that question came up while we were going through where the landslide happened. Right. Yes. That was really poor road and that's one of the variable suspension. It will actually absorb Some, a pretty poor road there. Yes. Whereas, even the Bay Run would have been kind of bouncing all over the place. Right, so, yeah, right, [INAUDIBLE] lots of questions. Not right, but- [LAUGH] Can I fit my golf clubs in easily? Chuck it out, [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGH] I think that's, yeah. If I drop Butch at Seven Road, then yes. But assuming your golf club [LAUGH] Same time it's [UNKNOWN] yes, [UNKNOWN] passenger seat, otherwise no. [LAUGH] What is the luggage capacity on this line? In the front it's enough to fit a wheely bag, carry-on bag. What does the acceleration feel like? As we've turned off the Pacific Coast Highway, and we're We're now on private beta road actually, which is quite unfortunate because if you'll agree, [UNKNOWN] to try which is [UNKNOWN] and that was this dropping down the [UNKNOWN] is you can [NOISE] [LAUGH] Yes that is [LAUGH] Slightly loss of words. The thing here I love that temptation it's okay don't worry about that because its that sensation of it dropping down the But also priming turbo charges and so that when it does it then suddenly kicks it with absolutely everything. And that's an, amazing feeling because you've got all this weight is being thrown down the road. You just gave me pause. I don't get this Is that cuz something comes be chemical is just feeling like you being driven the pulling so strong just so relax. Yes. Is some special [UNKNOWN] Right now. Yeah. Does it feel stupid fast now that evs have much rapid acceleration? Yes, yes it does [UNKNOWN] Just to spend the [UNKNOWN] That. When you have that instant or instant response, I start going nice and comfortable. Does that mean something I go ludicrous mode and a Tesla, but they tend to have that instant punch and is yes, the statement is always dropping off whereas this is always the other way around. No, it doesn't have the instant publishing straightaway when you hit the weights and then you have the money. Much comes in now but they're prime, but then he just [INAUDIBLE] and he seems to get crazier and crazier. That's how fast the initial hit. And then it always gets more surprising. So you know the interval, but it's [INAUDIBLE] to the fact that he keeps on going. It's just [INAUDIBLE] it's still tracking isn't it? Yeah. It's just pulling and pulling and pulling. That's the [INAUDIBLE] the same as you haven't got to change gears. You just. [BLANK_AUDIO] Yeah, I I keep waiting for it to drop off. It just doesn't doesn't. Right. Thank you very much for all of your questions about your on thankfully, I know this is I know we haven't driven it down, look at the videos, to see that those sorts of things So, learns a bit more about this. But an amazing car, it is an absolute perfect [UNKNOWN] car, it wasn't worse wash under circumstances and just to be around it is, so yeah. Much of the impression takes like a month. Thank you very much. Yeah. [LAUGH] Yeah, it's very fun, anytime.
