The Ford Focus ST is pretty much eveything you'll ever need.
Auto Tech
This isn't a statement of intent.
This isn't a missed opportunity.
This is a continuation of a breed.
This is a simple, subtle pair of these leveled at the hard hatch aristocracy.
This is a new fast Ford, and by the end of this film you're probably going to want one.
Or at least make you regret buying that Golf GTI.
We finally have a new fast Ford to lust over: the Focus ST.
Now, let me give you the [unk] on this thing.
It's got 250 brake horsepower and 250 pound-foot of torque, and that comes with 2-liter turbo charged EcoBoost engine.
If you got a runway long enough, it'll do 154 miles an hour and will do the minute to 62 dash in just 6.5 seconds.
It's pretty brisk, but also it's
quite cheap.
A [unk] will set you back just under 22 grand.
So, it's cheap, powerful, and rather economical.
It'll apparently do over 50 mpg on the motorway.
It's also got a really, really strong pedigree.
I know the Golf GTI lineup is all very iconic, and I know that the Vauxhall VXR cars all have some very interesting grandparents.
And I'm pretty sure the Peugeot 205 GTi would look and hang its head in shame at its
relatives.
But let's take a look at the cars that got the Focus ST to where it is today.
The old ST, the old RSs, they're pretty awesome, but then anything with a [unk] badge from the past, they were just epic.
And even [unk] cars, there's that little bit preppy and old good fun, but this one is said to be the best yet.
There's 3 [unk] ST, ST2, and ST3.
The bigger the number, the more toys you'd get.
The ST, though, has a party piece.
It's not the turbo, it's not the more than 100 brake horsepower per ton.
Is that frankly you have to be monumentally stupid to find it hard to drive.
The controls are all very easy to use.
Let me clarify that.
You see, the steering has been sported off over the standard car, so its [unk] sporty weight to it.
But the thing is, it's not so heavy that your granny can't use it.
Or the switch gear is very easy to use and very [unk] tough, and the gear change isn't too sporty, but at the
same isn't flaccid.
It's just right.
But what is it like to drive?
Well, other than easy to drive, it's a very multi-faceted car.
You see, in one hand, it encourages you to drive smoothly, looking after mpg, making sure, you know, you're driving to the best of your ability to get the most out of it.
[unk] driving [unk] in the dash that tells you how to do it.
The noise it makes is absolutely intoxicating.
I really, really like it.
And that's the thing about it.
It handles incredibly.
When you're still giving it
a little bit of pressure, there'll be a noise.
I've been turning and it just begs you to go for a little bit more.
It's so engaging without being too overwhelming.
It's just though it's got its hand at your back just pushing you along that it's almost saying, "Go on.
Have a little bit more fun.
You can do it.
You deserve it.
You've earned it.
You're in a Focus ST." The Focus ST then isn't the best hard Ford ever.
Is it enough to best the likes of the Golf GTI and Vauxhall's most trusty powerful Astra VXR?
In a few words, maybe, probably, and yes.
It's got more than enough power.
It's got space for everything life can throw at you.
It's the kind of car that proves you can have everything in one easy package.
How is she a brilliant?
Overlook it at your peril.
