Big companies like Apple and Amazon and Google Now have really good voice assistance and you now have a variety of ways of integrating those assistance in your car.
Most modern cars still let you connect your phone to the car with Bluetooth.
Good beyond that, most offer either Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or both.
What that means is you can take your iPhone or your Android and plug them into your car and then have access to Apple Siri or Google Assistant, as well as a lot of the apps on your phone mirrored on your cars info tainment system if you want to talk to Amazon's assistant in your car, you probably need to buy a device that will plug into your cars 12 Volt charger.
Fortunately Amazon mix.
It's called the Echo auto.
It's 50$.
It plugs into that charger or the USB port in your car.
Then it uses your phone to connect to the Internet.
From there it's going to respond to all of the things that an Amazon Echo would respond to in your house.
So the Echo Auto is a pretty good option, especially if you have an older car with no built in entertainment system.
You can actually find a variety of 3rd party aftermarket devices out there, some of which will work with any of the major voice assistance you might want.
So part play in Android Auto are common enough that if you're buying a new car, they're basically table stakes.
At this point, some cars do have more advanced smarts that go above and beyond basic Bluetooth connectivity or phone mirroring.
For example, some offer deeper integrations with Amazons assistant models from Toyota and Lexus.
An Volvo will do things like.
Let's say you have an Amazon speaker like in.
Echo Dot at home.
You can command the dawn to turn on your car or check your fuel level while you're still inside.
Then when you're in the car on the way home, you can give a command to turn on the lights in the foyer, or heat up the place so it's nice and toasty when you get home.
for Google, look for a more advanced Android set up in your car's dash in the near future called Android Automotive.
Instead of pairing with an relying on your phone, this is an Android based infotainment system with greater.
It's an integration with Google Services and I'm pretty sure Google named it to try to deliberately cause confusion with Android Auto, but if you can keep them straight cars with Android Automotive are just starting to hit the market.
Finally, some manufacturers like Mercedes are trying to do away with the reliance on Google an Amazon and come out with their own virtual assistant.
Mercedes assistant is called MB UX, which just rolls right off the top.
Your car is getting smarter and if you want to talk to it, you now have lots of options to make sure it's actually listening.
