Volkswagen's second-generation Tiguan is finally here. Fans of the previous generation looking for an upgrade, or maybe just those looking for a small SUV for a small but growing family, will be happy to know that it's bigger, more stylish, and more comfortable than before. But there are a few nitpicks I think you should hear about. So without further ado, here are five things you should know about the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. [MUSIC] It's bigger, much bigger. The new Tiguan is about 11 inches longer than the previous generation and proportionately wider and taller as well. The extra size has allowed VW to greatly improve people and cargo capacity and to offer the Tiguan with an available third row. Upgrading it from five to seven available seats. So it's a bit of a tight fit back there. The tech is significantly better this generation. You've got VW's latest dashboard tech with up to an 8-inch display. It looks pretty darn good. Standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity allow passengers to bring their own maps and streaming apps to the dash if you don't like VW's onboard software. The newer platform for this second generation take one allows even more driver aid technology. Owners now have access to lane keeping assist tech, adaptive cruise control that work in stop and go traffic and cool multi cam area view that gives a 360 degree view of the area around the SUV with park The Tiguan is also available with VWs visual cockpit. A 12.3 inch screen that serves as the instrument cluster, that can display traditional driving data, like a smooth moving speedometer and tachometer. Or more advanced entertainment functions, like placing a live map between those gauges. If you're a techie looking at a Tiguan, this is the feature to get. underneath the hood of a two liter turbocharged engine making 180 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. And that's a decent amount of power for around town driving and around town cruising. But this new Tiguan can feel a bit underpowered when climbing steep hills or when passing on the interstate. And that's just with me in it alone. I imagine it'll feel a bit more sluggish when loaded up with.
