Welcome to the deep dive into the tech of the 2017 Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe.
The first thing you need to.
It's known about the command system is that there is no touch screen.
Instead, everything is done using the little controller knob or by swiping on the touch pad.
Now, that's all well and good until you got the Apple car play.
So, I can't just touch the pile that I want.
Instead I have to use the little burden knob and then click to select.
It's a job done it's just kinda awkward.
But when it comes to the command system itself, things just aren't very intuitive, and it takes a lot of extra screens to input any information.
So for example, if I want to change a radio station.
First I got to scroll over to radio.
Then I've gotta click.
Then I've gotta move this down, scroll over to options.
I click.
Click on Enter Frequency and then manually enter a frequency.
Whatever happened to the little dial?
I just want the little dial.
It'd be so much faster.
Even when I want my navigation, so when I click on Navi, I just get a map.
In order to input destination, again, I gotta scroll down, click destination.
Address entry and then I don't even get one box entry.
I have to scroll through each, individual letter.
It's so annoying.
It takes forever.
There is a wi-fi hotspot that can support up to four devices and you would think that the password would be under, I don't know, Internet, but it's not there.
Instead, you have to scroll down to Vehicle Settings to find it.
Regardless, it's really fast, and it's pretty convenient if you need to log into your computer, and your phone doesn't support internet tethering.
The good news is that Mercedes-Benz is great at doing drivers' aids.
The 360 degree camera is super clear and really really crisp And the adaptive cruise control will bring you to a complete stop and will also pause before going again.
Although if it's pause for more then a couple of seconds you do have to give a tap on the gas in order to start.
Now when you are in adaptive cruise control there's also a steering pilot which keeps you centered in the lane.
It doesn't drive for you so don't think that it's going to steer you around on long sweepers but it is a great stress reliever.
When your in control of the car yourself, there's an active lane keeping assists that will buzz the steering wheel if you happen to cross over a lane line without signaling and if you don't respond, it will apply the brakes.
An active blind spot monitoring takes regular blind spot monitoring up a notch.
It will apply the brakes if it suspects your going to have a lateral collision.
So I really like all of the driver's aides in here.
It's just that the command system is just unnecessarily confusing.
It really does not have to be as convoluted.
