Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1: A little madness goes a long wayWe take the latest Mercedes-AMG C63 to the track and see just what a new turbocharged AMG coupe can really do. Turns out it's rather fond of smoking.
[SOUND] I don't think I'll ever get bored of hearing a v8. Whether there's a turbo or preferably not one strapped to one, the noise of a well [UNKNOWN] motor doing its thing is, well, Perfect. Until today I'd not had a go in the new Mercedes AMG C63 Coupe Edition 1, but I know that it comes with a city yellow stripe, a V8 and a lively bottom. And I've got a track all to myself, tough day. [SOUND] This is the S version of the c63, which means its got a little bit more power than the basic c63. A bit more confusing, but right now you're looking at an Edition 1 and you can tell that Because of the stripes. Now, the S gets bright yellow stripes, the standard edition one C63, I really have trouble calling those things standard, gets grey stripes, which is kind of cool. Now the S gets 503 horsepower, and 517 pound foot for a four liter twin turbo charged v8 Now I'm gonna stop talking about it and use it, like this [LAUGH]. Good move, I think. 0 to 62 takes 3.9 seconds, and its top speed is 155 miles an hour. Though you can raise that to 180ish if you have a runway and money to play with. And once you do run out of space, standard fit carbon brakes will do the stopping for you. What do you think of the look? The stripe I could live without, but the rear I don't think I could. It's so beautifully done. The front ain't bad either. And while this doesn't really share much with the standard care, just the boot, roof, and doors. In fact, the Edition 1 has a few key differences of its own. [UNKNOWN] strip included, the yellow [UNKNOWN] continues around the car inside and out [UNKNOWN] edition [UNKNOWN] and gloss black wheels. 20 inch at the rear, 19 at the front. That all sounds a little jolly doesn't it [UNKNOWN] it's going to get more jolly when we talk about competitors. The BMW [UNKNOWN] for example Has less power and fewer cylinders to play with. And there really isn't an equivalent [UNKNOWN] at the moment. AMG's goal has always been to make Merc's motors quicker but still not bottom destroyingly uncomfortable. Apart from the black series cars, those things are just insane. Which leads me to a thought, This new C63 is quicker to 60 too than the last gen C63 black. I wonder which would win in a drag race? Well it's a good thing there's a C63 black series over there! [MUSIC] [SOUND] Ready, three, two, one, go. [SOUND] So the new car won, but that was hardly a surprise. Anyway, what's it like to drive it? Okay, the Mercedes AMG C63 Edition 1. How long is that name? I mean, seriously we're getting a little bit silly. What do you like? We're in sport plus, car's set to manual, and everything sets to angry. It's gear box is slick. I like the gear box on this car. It makes me feel happy. Then the steering in this mode, smooth. So smooth. You get great feedback through the front. You can feel the Of the car. And there isn't that much funny movement in this. This here I've got the suspension set up to idiot track mode. But, it's really good. Such ace feedback from it. You can turn the suspension down a bit. And with that you get a little bit more body lean which is good on the road, but I prefer it a little stiffer on the track. Now, its brakes, great feel through the pedal and they've got great grab to them as well, really good to play with. And then you put a little bit too much power on and all that lovely talk 516 pound foot tries for fire its way out of the back of the car. And you end up with a little bit of better movement. [MUSIC] That hero mode in sport handling is. Good for an idiot like me and probably the vast majority of idiots who are gonna buy this. Because you can have a little bit of a skid, feel like a hero, and then go about your day undead. The feel of the whole thing. It doesn't feel as clinical as an M for example. So the N cars, I do like the N4. It's a fantastic feeling car. But the interior, it doesn't hold as much magic for me as it used to. Where as this C class cabin is pretty. I used to be down on it, but having spent a fair bit of time with it, it's a really nice place just to sit and stay. You get stuck in traffic in it and you don't really mind. Total response, it Pretty hot, actually. We're in mid range now, let's give a bit of a poke. Off we go. It's so fast, those turbos just, it makes it glide. Naturally, aspirated engines sound better, maybe even feels a bit better, but I do like the extra launch of power that these things have. It just gathers pace, and then you get that noise Big, dirty, create rumble [SOUND]. It's my engine turns three up. When you're driving on a motor way, as I did this morning. It's just a lovely car. You just sit on it and go. Wenham AMD. [UNKNOWN] going to make a crap car worthy. I don't think of a bad thing to say about it. The price. This spec, this car is eight one thousand pounds which is a lot of money. But, it's also a lot of fun. Mercedes were always more expensive than everything else and this is In other words, It's fantastic. Before today I hadn't driven the new C63 and now I have. What do I think? Well the yellow stripe is stupid, it has a nice bottom and it is unbelievably fast, ridiculously so. Yet still somewhat comfortable. It's a fantastic all rounder. As far as things I don't like go, They aren't many. In fact Merc's made a pretty fantastic car. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO]
