Go off-grid on the cheap with Nissan's 2019 Destination Frontier
There's nothing I like more than a road trip and when that trip involves and off payment excursion and even better, so I'm stoked to be driving this week's vehicle, the Nissan destination frontier.
Nissan has done a great job with outfitting a frontier with all the basics you need for your first overland adventure and keeping the price right around $40,000, including vehicle So how do they do it?
Well, you guys like the frontiers really old?
So it's really cheap.
I mean, yeah, you gotta make a few concessions.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Yeah, those things are not in here.
Drivers age like adaptive cruise control blind spot monitoring link giving us this funny go buy a Ford Rangers Something.
But still it's not all bad.
We got a four liter V six engine pushing out 261 horsepower and 281 pound feet of torque.
That's made it to a positively ancient five speed automatic transmission but you can get a manual if you so desire.
Now I haven't taken this particular frontier off road but my past experiences with the truck, this thing old billy goat over pretty much anything in for low I personally would probably add a locker to any overlanding vehicle but it's not a deal breaker you don't really need it.
You remember the destination frontier is all about what is absolutely necessary.
It totally dig on this rock rails.
It gives you a little bit of extra protection plus it's easier to get in and out of the truck.
But if you're gonna go off roading, absolutely the first thins you need to do is get yourself a better wheel and tire package.
Here I got the Nido Trail Rappler mud trains wrapped around 17 inch american racing wheels.
They might look like these locks but it's a little bit shaky Nick fakers team but remember this is all about must haves to go overlanding not necessarily nice to have you got a three inch lift gives me better offer geometry all the way around and you know I did on a nice feel bugger gives me a little bit of protection upfront and it's a good place to malsky baja designs LED spotlights Well, here's the thing, you all, when you go off road, you are gonna get stuck I guarantee it.
And when that happens it is a worn winch to the rescue.
Well you probably gonna find yourself stuck where a winch might be a little bit of over hill when in that case Nissan has got a set of recovery boards for you.
Now I appreciate that Nissan's trying to save money but these guys are no good.
So just spend the extra money and get yourself a set of Max tracks, you're gonna be a lot happier.
Really other side, there's some storage containers that don't interfere with the capacity of a bed which is pretty nice.
Got some containers for gas and fresh water.
And while you can find coolers, it'll keep ice for a couple of days, I mean I don't know about you but I'd rather spend the extra money give myself a real fridge so I can have cold sodas for the entire trip.
And did I tell you about the tent?
Because there's a roof top tent.
You might want to consider getting a high lift jack and a really nice shovel to add to your kids but by and large is a destination frontiers got everything you need to get out in the wild.
However, your price may vary.
It's all going to depend on the level of premium that you choose for the frontier and where you source your gear.
