Well, GMC is intent on bringing the AT4 off road sub-brand to it's entire lineup by 2020 as they have here with the trusty Sierra AT4.
But today I've come out here to the beautiful mountains of Colorado to see how it does on the 2020 Acadia 84.
And the all new 2021 GMC Yukon 84.
But there's a twist.
We're not going in the dirt we're playing in the snow.
GMC recently introduced to the mid size Canyon 84 you can kind of think of it like a ZR2 light.
Available with either the 3.6 litre V6 or the 2.8 litre diesel, the Canyon AT4 has got 31 inch Goodyear tires, skid play protection on the transport case, off-road tune suspension and an automatic locking rare differential.
Visually, the Kenyan 84 distinguishes itself with dark chrome finishes a larger grill and of course those required red toe hooks.

Now GMC understands that you're not gonna take your Acadia at four out to Moab and go rock crawling.
No instead, this is meant for the times when, let's say you've got bad weather, a little bit of ice.
It's gonna help you out in your day to day life.
The differences here on the 84 acadias.
You got a different set of tires, something with a little bit more of an aggressive tread.
But mostly it's all about these Dual Clutch rear differential.
On a lot of systems you can stuck on is you've got a brake base torque vectoring.
And it's going here, and it's going there, but you're losing a lot of power and a lot of efficiency.
Here, all of that power goes through the mechanical twin-clutch so you're not losing any power, and you're gonna be able to get over that ice just a little bit easier.
So 2021 marks the first time we have seen a Yukon in the AT4 trim but you guys, I have been catfished.
I thought I was gonna get to drive the AT4 today but I'm in the Denali.
But that's okay because [UNKNOWN] uses the fancy pants one, right.
So the first thing we're gonna do here is I've got a pretty big incline.
I got an engineer here next to me, so I'm gonna go into four low.
We are gonna go.
That's blinking four low.
We're going to raise the suspension.
So this is going to put us up to our full ride height this Denali can come with either the magnetic ride control or the air suspension, we've got the air suspension, which raises the height up two inches when it's in for low.
So that's going to give us an approach angle of 32 degrees and we're gonna need it because this is really, really steep.
Okay, so it should just hold while I see the sky.
I see the sky.
All right, break is pressed.
Should I take my foot off the brake off the brake?
[UNKNOWN] off the brake.
Are you sure we're not gonna go backwards do it.
[UNKNOWN]
Hey.
[UNKNOWN] All right.
[UNKNOWN]
Okay, yeah.
Easy peasy, I'm gonna check out my camera there so I can see what's going on.
There we go, one mile per hour, this is the weirdest thing you guys, hold the set control is so weird but, it's kind of chugging, chugging, chugging just a little bit.
But I don't feel unsafe and I don't feel like something bad is going to happen to me.
So the main difference between the Denali and the AT4 is that the AT4 has got a little bit more of an aggressive tire and it's got a skid plate over the transfer case.
Other than that, the Denali is really the fancy pants one, right?
We've got a really nice interior, although this is all camouflage, so I can't really tell.
So the engines that I can get with this are a 6.2 liter V eight or a 5.3 liter V or close or a new three liter inline six diesel which frankly I can't wait to drive because everybody loves a nice diesel.
The 2020 GMC Acadia 84 is available now while the canyon at four and the Yukon at four will be available in the summer.
Sorry, I don't have any word on pricing.
We'll know that later on in the year, but for now, I think I'm gonna get into this giant AT4 here with the tracks cuz I do love me a big old truck.
