Yeah, I know.
They're amazing cars.
I gotta tell you though, I don't get the obsession.
I mean there are a lot of amazing cars in the world.
You see them all here at Frankfurt.
But for whatever reason, the slobberfest is here at Ferrari as it always is.
But here's the object of everyone's adoration this time; it's the 458 Spider.
So here we have the 458 with a retractable aluminum roof that goes down in just 14 seconds.
That's real steady.
It takes up very little space.
They've got a decent area behind the seats as a cargo bench, if you will.
This is the first car of its type, which is to say, it's a mid-rear engine open car that has this retractable top.
No one's combined all those together.
Of course it's fast as hell, 4-1/2 liter V8, hence the name 458; engine of the year for 2011.
Under 3-1/2
seconds for 0 to 60.
When that top is down, notice that rear back lighter, that rear glass wind screen.
It automatically adjusts itself to the perfect position for the best air dynamics and least wind buffeting.
And because it borrows a page or two from greener cars, it has automatic start/stop technology to save gas.
Gets this vehicle up to around 24 MPG while delivering 570 horsepower, not bad.
Pricing and availability are still TBD, but you know it'll be north of a standard 458 Italia and that begins it almost 230 grand.
Okay, yeah.
The more I look at it, the more I get it.
