NASCAR may not be as popular over here in Europe, as it is in the States, but there is something appealing about the simplicity of high-powered rugged cars racing at high speed wheel-to-wheel.
[INAUDIBLE] For me, my love of NASCAR begins and ends with an obsession with the movie, Days of Thunder, a movie which is pretty much to blame for the job I do today.
So, when offered the opportunity to head to Rockingham, the U.K.'s only NASCAR-rated racing oval, to have a go at it myself, I jumped at the chance.
[SOUND] ARCX take genuine NASCARs and ship them over to the U.K. for anyone who wants to have a go.
The authentic livery cars look the part, but there was only one car I was interested in driving, the one with Cole Trickle stenciled on the side.
You're gonna start out as a passenger.
You're gonna do three laps with one of my professionals.
You're gonna be three inches from the wall at 170 miles an hour.
Then, if that's not enough, you're gonna get out, you're gonna get into the race car, and you're gonna actually drive it.
The racecar and you're in it all by yourself.
[LAUGH] Really?
Nobody's in it, all by yourself.
12-year-old [UNKNOWN] would be wetting his pants right now.
34-year-old [UNKNOWN] might be too.
Immediately upon entering the car I knew this wasn't going to be like any other driving experience I'd ever had.

I have no idea how fast we were going, but the sound and vibrations, and proximity to that outside wall, made me want more than anything to jump in the driver's seat, and try it myself.
[MUSIC]
I'm extremely excited and slightly nervous.
These are 350 small block V8, which aren't the full size of a proper NASCAR engine, but that's still 5.7 liters.
That's still 500 brake horsepower in a car that's really only designed to go fast.
You don't have to factor in much breaking or cornering, this is literally just out and out speed After a brief run-through of the car and how to drive it, it was time to elegantly squeeze myself through the window and strap in for the rise of a lifetime.
[MUSIC]
The feeling of being there, strapped into this machine, the engine howling, the car vibrating, the track flying by, and the voice in your ear giving you instructions.
It all makes reality fade away for a moment, and you step into a different world Right then and there I wasn't Drew.
I was Cole and I was going to go around the outside of turn 4. My god.
That was awesome.
Unbelievable.
That was unbelievable.
I might not just done that.
I might not just done that at all.
It's incredible, but I find that.
I just drove a car in Trickle's name, it's just made a young part of me come alive.
That was, that was absolutely unbelievable.
The speed it.
Is quite immense, but it's the sound and ferocity and being in that racing environment and having your spotter in your ear over the radio giving those instructions.
Speed up and pushing you to make the most of your laps.
Bucket list checked off, that was unbelievable.
If you have any interest in NASCAR or are simply curious about having a driving experience different to any other, the ARCX NASCAR driving experience at Rockingham might be worth a look.
I, for one, had an amazing time and can't wait to get back into the guise of [UNKNOWN]
