An electrified ride in the 2018 Nissan LeafThe next-gen Leaf boasts new tricks like ProPilot assist and the e-Pedal. We take a quick first drive and try a few of them out.
[MUSIC] Today we're taking a very quick spin in the all-new 2018 Nissan Leaf. It's got more range, it's more powerful. Heck, it's even less expensive. So let's start with the range. This generation we have 150 miles of range thanks to its more energy-dense 40-kilowatt-hour battery pack. That power is going to go through a more powerful e-motor at about 147 horsepower and 236 pound feet of torque. That means that the leaf which was already pretty torquey off the line, just feels a lot more confident in its acceleration. You can definitely feel it in the mid-range when you're on the highway as opposed to just when you're pulling off from the line. Overall, we've got new tech all around including Nissan's new Pro Pilot Assist system which is sort of adaptive cruise control on steroids. It works all the way down in stop and go traffic, and even features a lane centering feature that allows the car to stay centered in the middle of its lane. But probably the coolest new feature is the e-Pedal, it's a one-foot driving system, so when you lift off of the accelerator, the car starts to slow down, and when you get back on, you start going. But, unlike other one-foot driving systems in other EVs, this one will even activate the physical breaks when you come to a complete stop at a traffic light, and turn on the rear brake lights. It's a truly 1 foot driving system. Overall I'm really liking everything about this new generation of Nissan Leaf and really looking forward to spending more time on the road.
