3 legendary letters for the Acura and Honda faithful but these fans were let down when Acura discontinued the NSX in 2005, but now it's back with this NSX concept that Acura is showing in Detroit.
Like the original, it's a 2 seat mid engine design, but this engine is far beyond the original.
First of all it's a hybrid but that doesn't mean it's slow.
This new NSX concept has a direct injection 3.5 liter engine right behind the passenger compartment.
Now that's made into a 7 speed dual clutch transmission with an electric motor integrated into the unit.
Now this whole assembly powers the rear wheels.
At the front here there's a single unit with 2 electric motors that drives the front wheels and those contort split between these 2 front wheels and that should give the car a really good handling.
Acura hasn't really set any performance numbers for the new NSX but a production model should come out within the next 5 years.
I'm Wayne Cunningham reporting from Detroit.
