2022 Volkswagen Tiguan: Spot the changes
Quick quiz.
What is Volkswagens best selling model in the world?
Well, if you guessed craft a pitch and wagon, you would be wrong.
Golf facade and Polo are incorrect as well.
VW is chart topping model is actually the Tiguan and it's getting a significant update for 2022.
You may not notice any changes at first, but this SUV has been tweaked outside the Tiggy features new front and rear bumpers.
The grill has been reworked and it's surprisingly elegant, especially on the top model.
We're at some Baelish with lightup trim LED headlamps are now standard, and around back the nameplate badge is now mounted underneath the VW logo, fancy I know.
Fresh wheel designs are offered spanning between 17 and 20 inches, And two new paint colors.
Join the lineup.
There's Oryx, white, and kings read The current tagline is already a pretty handsome SUV dressed in a rather timeless design, but the updated 2022 model looks even more elegant and sophisticated that new grille giving it a genuinely sharp look.
Visually at least, this vehicle is almost certain to age better than say the Toyota RAV4, Which has much more flash in the pan styling.
No, there aren't any major changes under the TIG ones hood either you still get a standard two liter turbocharged four cylinder engine that delivers the same 184 horsepower and 221 pound feet of torque that it does today hardly thrilling, though perfectly adequate figures though this engine has been recalibrated for smoother power delivery.
An eight speed automatic transmission is standard equipment and no matter the trim level, you can get the Tiguan with either front or all wheel drive.
Predictably interior changes are pretty minor some new colors are offered including cinnamon leather rat as well as a rich brown called was set now keeping old man winters icy mitts off your nether regions Heated seats are now standard and of course front wheel drive models come equipped with a third row seat.
As for tech and eight inch digital instrument cluster is standard though higher end models do come with a 10.3 inch panel.
Other goodies that you can get include a wireless charging plate, a premium Fender audio system and ambient lighting that has up to 15 colors.
Automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring are standard across the range.
But for folks that want just a little bit more, Volkswagens IQ drive suite of aids, is available and this includes things like adaptive cruise control with stop and go capability, as well as Lane Keeping Assist.
Beyond that you can also get automatic high beams in this vehicle, and of course front, and rear parking sensors.
This refreshed interior looks great, feels pretty upscale and has loads of vaccine leg room, but VW has switched to touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel and for the climate controls.
In recent years, other automakers have backtracked from using these because they can be challenging to operate while driving in the Tiguan.
At least there are well defined indentations where your fingers go And strong haptic feedback so hopefully they're not a problem.
Once again, the updated TIG one tussles with other small utility vehicles like the Chevrolet, Equinox Ford Escape Honda CRV, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX five Nissan, rogue Toyota, rav4, Subaru, Forester and many others.
This is a crowded segment that accounts For around a quarter of new vehicle deliveries in the US, so yeah, it's huge.
The current Tiguan is probably a mid pack offering and I don't really expect that to change for 2022.
This updated model feels like a solid vehicle, but we'll have to wait and see how it compares to segment leaders.
But what do you think of this new VW?
No, leave a comment down yonder.
The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is slated to go on sale in the September to October timeframe.
Now pricing has not been announced yet, but the current version kicks off at about $26,500 including destination fees.
He's, and I expect this one will be pretty close to that.
However, I have been told that the top shelf model its pricing will be realigned just a little bit so that it's closer to high end versions of the Toyota, Rav4 and Honda.
See The RV.
The small SUV segment is a big deal these days.
And while there aren't any real groundbreaking changes to the Tiguan, I see no reason why it will not continue to be V dubs top performer.
