2012 Scion iQ
Hello!
I'm Wayne Cunningham with CNET.
This is the 2012 Scion iQ.
Now, this is a car that Toyota has sold around the world for the last couple of years, but now they bought it to the U.S. under the Scion brand.
The car is very small and is design merely as a city car.
A very short-wheelbase about 10 feet long means you can park it just about anywhere.
That's really the main selling point of this car.
So, even though the Scion iQ is a very short car, it actually has a back
seat.
Here, let me show you.
In the car is just flip the rubber side seat forward and the-- and squeeze.
I can't squeeze back in through here.
But, Scion actually has the driver seat and the passenger seat in different positions.
So, I can push the passenger seat further back.
Top it over.
Move it up and I can just slide right back in here into the rear
seat.
Voila!
Comfortable.
This is Scion's new Pioneer Premium Head Unit.
Now, this new head unit has HD radio which are on right now.
It's got a number of other sources too and if you go to the source screen, you've got to cascade through these different source options here.
You can see that it has Bluetooth audio.
I've got an iPad plugged into it right now.
There's another new thing going on heres.
We've got Pandora.
This is only
Pandora integration with [unk] and-- but it does give me its plain station I had accustom probably on here already and I can also give songs with the up or down thumb with-- if I want them on that station or not.
One thing impressive about this car, even though the engine is tiny and only has maybe 85 horse power is that the transmission has low enough ratios that holds those low ratios enough
to give you decent acceleration in the city at low speeds, it will work fine by passing people and going up hills and things like that.
You know, ahead as I just find but when you probably run into trouble is on the freeway or the high speeds when you're trying to maintain speed or try to pass somebody when you're already at speed, that's where you're not gonna have as much power which is why this is basically designed as a city car.
The Scion iQ go for a base price of
15,995 dollars.
For the premium audio system which I get earlier, that will be an obviously an optional but price.
The Scion iQ will roll out to the West Coast in October this year and then roll out to the rest of the country throughout March of next year.
