Tech updates lead the charge on the refreshed 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe's mild refresh includes updates to its design, infotainment and safety.

Hyundai's updated 2017 Santa Fe crossover might look relatively unchanged, but behind the light design tweaks lie plenty of updates. The exterior sports fresher front and rear fasciae, with new wheel designs, updated headlights and available LED lighting. And, well, that's it in the looks department, for the most part.

The real meat-and-potatoes of the deal lies with its technology. Hyundai's three-mode switch between Sport, Eco and Normal modes is now standard, and the Santa Fe adds a third-row USB outlet and new second-row cupholders.

Hyundai's also greatly expanded its available active and passive safety systems. 2017 updates include a new multi-view camera system, full-range adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking. There's also a new electronic parking brake with automatic holding and available high-beam assist.

Hyundai's next-generation Blue Link infotainment system is standard equipment in the Santa Fe. Three-row Santa Fes have a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto. If you opt for navigation, the screen size bumps up to 8 inches.

The powertrain remains a 3.3-liter, six-cylinder engine with 290 horsepower, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. FWD and AWD drivetrains are both available.

The 2017 Santa Fe is arriving in dealerships now, and it starts at $30,800 for a front-wheel drive SE model. The range-topping Limited AWD Ultimate will set you back $41,150.
