Willys CJ series brings the Jeep to the masses

The Jeep CJ-2A was the first Jeep marketed toward the civilian market.

The CJ-2A was produced for four years between 1945 and 1949. Power came from a 134-cubic-inch in-line four-cylinder engine.

Carried over from its military counterparts, the fold-down windshield made it to the civilian model. 

Compared to the CJ-2A, the CJ-3A received a one-piece windshield and a stronger rear axle.

Updates in 1953 brought about a name change to the CJ-3B.

A taller grille and hood were implemented in the CJ-3B in order to fit a new Hurricane F-Head four-cylinder engine.

The CJ-5 debuted in 1955 with slightly larger dimensions compared to the CJ-3B.

In addition to the longer wheelbase and overall length, the CJ-5 featured engine, transmission and axle upgrades.

The CJ-5 had production run that ran for more than 30  years. More than 600,000 CJ-5s were built.

Compared to the CJ-5, the CJ-6 featured a 20-inch longer wheelbase.
