Volkswagen Beetle Fender rocks on and on

Volkswagen is up to some pretty exciting things of late, but this one-off Fenderised Beetle has us bewitched.

The previous Beetle loved women and was, in turn, loved by them. It's fair to say that men felt differently.

To help chase that other 50 per cent, VW added an extra level of butch to the new car.

Let's say we were unconvinced until we happened upon this Fender-branded one-off version hiding off to the left of VW's main stage in Tokyo.

We're not usually a fan of wood-style trim in cars, but this sunburst insert looks pretty darn sweet.

A 400W 10-channel amplifier lies at the heart of the sound system. There's also a subwoofer to boot. Geddit?

In addition to door-mounted speakers, the Fender boasts two sets of tweeters — one set in the doors and another beside the rear-seat passengers.

Since the Frankfurt Motor Show, VW has ditched the RNS510 entertainment and nav system in favour of an iPhone-controlled system.

Orange stitching and a leather-coated roof are some of the car's other embellishments.
