The M4 is a first for the brand, it's the first time a '4' car has been given an 'M' badge. It replaces the M3 coupé.

The M3 is just as you'd expect - four door, five seats, bags of room for all.

Under each bonnet sits a 3.0-litre straight six engine with 431bhp.

If you spec the dual clutch gearbox you'll hit 62mph in just 4.1 seconds.

The manual cars are slightly slower to the magic marker - 4.3 seconds. But still - you can have a manual!

The manual 'box is pretty cool, too. It'll blip the throttle for you when you downshift so you can change gear more smoothly.

That also means you don't have to learn how to heel and toe to get the best out of it.

Top speed is limited to 155mph.

Both cars feature extensive use of Carbon Fibre.

There's a CF brace in the engine bay and on the roof.

The M4 has a lightweight carbon fibre boot lid. It's been sculpted for better aero.

The underside of the cars has been flattened for better aero...

...as a result they stick to the ground a little better.

BMW reckons the M4 will outsell the M3 by some margin.

But if you're a family man with desires on some track time, the M3 could be the perfect car for you.
