Say hello to Mini's first plug-in hybrid, the Cooper S E Countryman All4
Despite its terrible, clunky name, the Countryman plug-in is a smooth operator with efficiency at the forefront of the equation.
The Mini Cooper S E Countryman All4 takes Mini's popular crossover and gives it a dose of electricity right to the heart.
Its three-cylinder gas engine powers the front wheels, while an electric motor powers the rear.
All in, the hybrid puts out a net 221 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. 60 mph arrives in 6.8 seconds.
The car can run on electricity alone for up to 24 miles with a top speed of 77 mph.
Charging the 7.6-kWh battery should take about 3 hours and 15 minutes on a 240-volt plug.
The all-wheel-drive system only engages one set of driven wheels, unless the situation or driver calls for both.
A special "Save Battery" mode lets owners charge their batteries while driving, holding it above 90 percent capacity for later use.
The cargo space is only slightly reduced over the gas-powered Countryman.
Unique hybrid touches include yellow "S" badging and the charging port, which is hidden behind the driver-side fender scuttle. The car's infotainment system features hybrid-only pages, as well.
The start/stop switch is yellow instead of red, as well. Keep on scrollin' to check out even more details on Mini's first plug-in, which goes on sale in June 2017.
