Royce has released a slew of details and photos of its upcoming Ghost.
Rolls-Royce Ghost: Excess in motion
In a bid to build excitement for the 2009 Frankfurt auto show, Rolls-Royce has released photos and details of the upcoming Ghost.
New engine
The Ghost is powered by an all-new 6.6-liter, direct-injected and twin-turbocharged V12 engine. Power is rated at 563 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque.
Just don't call them "suicide doors"
The Ghost sedan features Rolls-Royce's signature Coach Doors.
Spirit of Ecstacy
Leading the Ghost is the motorized Spirit of Ecstasy, which retracts into the grill when the car is parked.
Contrast silver hood
Like the Phantom Coupe models, the Ghost features a contrasting silver hood. Unlike the Phantom Coupe, the Ghost's hood isn't brushed metal. It is actually painted silver with a matte lacquer finish.
Steering wheel
It's difficult to tell from photos, but it appears that the Ghost's steering wheel is thicker than those of the Phantom models. Hub-mounted controls also appear to have improved.
Cabin
If nothing else, the Ghost's cabin is opulent. Wood veneer and leather cover almost every surface; no cheap plastics here.
Control center
The control center, which is usually hidden behind a wood panel, appears to be based on BMW's iDrive.
Rotary controller
The rotary controller with dedicated function buttons seems to back up the assumption that the Ghost's infotainment system is based on iDrive.
Hard-drive-based navigation
The Ghost's hard-drive-based navigation system features 12.5GB of space for storing ripped audio from both USB and CD sources.
Instrument cluster
The Ghost's instrument cluster features the oddball Power Reserve gauge that shows what percentage of the engine's immense torque is being used at the moment.
Panoramic sunroof
An optional Panoramic sunroof is available on Ghost.
Backseat driver
When you're talking about a Rolls, sometimes the best seat is the backseat.
Theatre mode
Dual rear 9.5-inch LCD screens can be configured in a Theatre Mode, which gives rear passengers control over all functions that do not affect the driving of the vehicle.
Umbrellas
Like its larger Phantom siblings, the Ghost can be equipped with umbrellas hidden in the doorjambs.
Self-righting wheel caps
The wheel caps are mounted on bearings. So when the Ghost is stopped, the "RR" logo is always upright.
