Photos: Nissan Mixim concept
Nissan is using the forthcoming Frankfurt auto show to exhibit its Mixim electric concept car. According to Nissan, the Mixim is a "compact vehicle for young drivers who are mostly engaged by their computer and the world via the Internet." There's not much chance of the model making it into production, but, like most concepts, it may provide clues to the direction of Nissan's model development over the next few years.
Despite its futuristic detailing, the Mixim's exterior profile shows that it is based on Nissan's Micra.
Inside, the driver's seat is situated in the center of the cabin with a passenger seat on either side. A fourth seat is stowed directly behind the primary row of seating.
Nissan says that the steering wheel and controls in the Mixim are inspired by gaming controls.
Two USB ports in the cabin support Nissan's contention that the Mixim is designed for young, digital-age drivers.
The Mixim features an interface resembling a rotary fan for controlling its air-conditioning system.
In keeping with other blue-sky electric car projects, the Mixim is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack, which fuels electric generators on each axle, making the car an all-wheel drive vehicle.
Gull-wing doors--a signature concept-car design feature--are a sure sign that the Mixim is not likely to make it to production.
According to Nissan, the design of the Mixim's wraparound windshield was inspired by the visor of a crash helmet.
