Photos: Mazda 2 now with three doors

If you could sum up the latest Mazda 2 in one hackneyed phrase it would be "less is more". Smaller, lighter and funkier than before, it's been an unqualified hit for the Hiroshima-based car maker. Now there's a 2 that offers even less ... or is that more?

First three-door Mazda since 1980
Well, it's the first three-door Mazda to make the trip down under since the 121 of 1980 — we've been denied various three-door 323 models over the years.

Generation iPod
With its youthful looks, it's no surprise to learn that an MP3-capable CD player and an auxiliary jack, for hooking up your favourite MP3 player, no less, are standard. The aux jack is to the left of the handbrake and below the cigarette lighter in the photo above.

Lose two doors, save AU$750
The three-door comes in two trim levels, Neo (AU$15,750) and Maxx (AU$17,960). Both trim levels come with standard air-con, power windows and mirrors, and remote central locking. The Maxx adds alloy wheels, spoiler and a CD stacker.

Family reunion
Revealed at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year, the three-door Mazda 2 has only taken a few months to find its way to the Antipodes.
