A Formula 1 weekend in Melbourne is all about cars and racing. And while our seats weren't perfect for capturing race action, we did manage to snap lots of interesting metal.

Turn one
Our vantage point was at the first corner of the Albert Park track. Here, a BMW winds its way through turn one after running down home straight.
The great wall
A concrete barrier and high-rise fencing prevented us, and most of the general public, from getting up close and personal with the cars. On the upside though, it did prevent us from being showered by car debris.
The V8 Supercars hold three exhibition races on the Formula 1 weekend. The yellow and red VE Commodore seen here is raced by Paul Morris, who only managed to finish one of the weekend's three races.
Mustang Sally
A 1966 Ford Mustang in a shade of dark green that looks suspiciously like British Racing Green.
Fly like a bird
A Falcon coupe race car from yesteryear.
Best of British
It's been a while since we've seen a Jaguar on a racetrack. This liveried cat is an XJS and a car similar to this won the 1985 Bathurst 1000.
Bambino!
This is a racing version of the original Fiat 500 prepared by Abarth. There'll be an Abarth-fettled version of the new 500, which goes on sale in Australia this month.
A car that Brock raced
This race-going version of the VP Commodore was once raced by the now departed Peter Brock.
In the background you can see a modified BA/BF Falcon sporting gullwing doors.
Prancing around the track
A race prepped version of the Ferrari F430 supercar. The most obvious differences between this and the road-going car are the latches on the bonnet, the racing wheels and the racing livery.
Lola T192
The T192 was designed to race in F5000 races in America and then later Britian, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Many are powered by 5-litre Chevy V8 engines.
