Ford introduced its Edge crossover as a 2007 model. The crossover segment is supposed to bridge the gap between SUVs and cars, providing the comfortable suspension of a car and the towing and carrying capacity of an SUV.

The Edge is pushed along by a transversely-mounted 3.5-liter V-6 making 265 horsepower. Its good enough to move the Edge, but mileage was a low 16.8 mpg average in our tests.

The Edge seats five, with cargo room in back. Our test model came with the panoramic sunroof option, featuring one large sunroof in front and a smaller, fixed pane in back.

Although we liked the stitched leather of the seats, the dashboard is covered in a hard plastic.

Sync, our favorite tech feature, comes standard in the Limited trim Edge. At other Ford trim levels, it's a cheap $400 option.

We weren't overly impressed with the audio quality in the Edge. Its subwoofer produces decent bass, but other frequencies were muted.
