The 2007 Jaguar Super V8 looks good and features a luxurious interior, whether you sit in the front or back. But its tech offerings are a mixed bag, with a dated stereo but modern cell phone integration.
The Super V8 is the top model in Jaguar's XJ line. It combines a luxurious interior with a supercharged engine.
Jaguar styling is classic, looking as good today as it did 40 years ago. The chrome mesh grille is appropriate for this supercharged sedan.
The beating heart of the Super V8 is the supercharger mounted atop the 4.2-liter V-8 engine, giving the car 400 horsepower and a 5 second zero to 60mph time.
Although the hood and rear are sleek, the roofline is high, affording ample views out the windows.
Jaguar even brands the calipers on the disc brakes.
While many automotive designers struggle to make an attractive rear for a car, Jaguar's designers have years of tradition on which to rely.
The interior looks as good as the exterior, with two-tone leather lining the cabin. The top of the dashboard is wrapped in leather, something you rarely see.
The big seats are very comfortable, and look good in white.
Dual zone rear climate control gives the Super V8 a total of four climate control zones.
The black plastic on this control center is ugly, and not in keeping with the Jaguar look, but it is very functional, letting rear seat passengers make calls and control the entertainment.
Headrest-mounted rear seat DVD screens are standard in the Super V8.
Trays fold out from the backs of the front seats.
As an example of dated technology, the DVD and CD changer are mounted in the trunk.
The Super V8 handles well for a big sedan, aided by Jaguar's Computer Active Technology Suspension traction control system.
The six speed automatic is controlled by this shifter, featuring the classic Jaguar J-gate for selecting gears manually.
Although we didn't care for the color scheme, the Jaguar touchscreen interface is nicely done, with well-defined buttons.
DSP settings let you focus the sound around the cabin.
The tweeters are nicely mounted into the door handles, but this position requires a small size, which comprised the audio quality.
The navigation system has well-rendered maps.
We particularly liked the Bluetooth cell phone integration in the Super V8, which made our phonebook accessible.
