Unveiling the Cayman and Boxter
At the 2008 LA Auto Show, Porsche unveiled its new Boxter and Cayman models, presented alongside the first Porsche ever, a 1940s-era Porsche 356.
New Porsche Boxter
Visually, the Boxter sticks to the script established when the Boxter was introduced in 1996.
Boxter front end
Up front, the daytime running lights and fog lamps are oriented in horizontal orientation. Turn signals are integrated into the new headlamps.
Boxter unveiling
Under the hood, the Boxter gets a bump in displacement, up to 2.9-liters, and a 10 horsepower boost to 255 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Boxter S is powered by a 3.4-liter flat six that get's a 15 horsepower boost, now outputting 310 ponies.
Boxter rear end
The boost in power is brought about by the inclusion of direct injection technology, recently introduced on the new 911. This new tech is also responsible for the boost in fuel economy, up to 26.3 mpg for the Boxter and 25.5 mpg for the Boxter S.
Boxter interior
Available as an option, Porsche's new Communication Management features fewer keys and a 6.5-inch touch screen. The Boxter is able to control an iPod or USB device with the optionally available universal audio interface. The same system is available on the new Cayman.
Cayman unveiling
The Cayman receives its first update since its introduction, gaining a 2.9-liter boxer-six engine that outputs 265 horsepower. The Cayman S likewise gets a new 3.4-liter mill that outputs 320 horsepower. The new Cayman gets about 26 combined mpg, while the Cayman S get about 25.
Cayman S
The Cayman's front end has been revised to bring the lighting in line with the aesthetic of the rest of the Porsche lineup, including horizontal daytime running lights and turn signals integrated into the new bi-xenon headlamps.
Cayman Side
Both the new Cayman and the new Boxter have the new PDK double-clutch transmission and Porsche Active Suspension Management available to them.
