SL stands for "sport light."
The 300 SL was, arguably, the world's first supercar.
There have been six generations of SL.
Over the years it has evolved from a smooth speed machine into a heavier, more luxurious machine.
The SL 350 boasts a 306 bhp V6.
Since the early noughties, the SL has used a folding metal hard top giving it "coupe convertible" status.
The roof, though, is quite heavy.
Which means that V6 has to work really rather hard to get going.
It's not slow by any means, 0-62 mph happens in 5.9 seconds. It doesn't feel as effortless as you'd expect it to, though.
The SL's sport mode does liven things up...
...it makes the car less relaxed and more engaging to drive.
Its standard "loaf around" settings are just fine, too.
But how closely related is this SL to the original?
