The Mazda2, called the Demio in Japan, is the third generation of a platform launched in 1996. The Mazda2 was launched at the Geneva auto show, and has been sold around the world since 2007. Mazda will bring the little car to the U.S. in 2010, with a preview launch at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Mazda2 will be Mazda's smallest car in the U.S., competing with the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Kia Soul, and Nissan Cube.
According to Mazda, the Mazda2 has seating for five. Since it is sold as an economy car, it will have cloth seats.
The Japanese version of the car can be purchased with navigation, a feature that probably won't make the U.S. option list.
Expect some basic technology in the cabin, such as Bluetooth hands-free phone support.
