Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque Convertible is the drop-top crossover you never knew you wanted (pictures)
The 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a four-passenger, two-door drop-top with the brand's most cutting-edge touchscreen infotainment system. It will debut officially at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque Convertible is built of a deceptively simple formula -- take a popular two-door crossover and cut the roof clean off.
The polyacrylic convertible top will lower in 18 seconds and raise in 21 seconds, at speeds up to 30 mph.
Aside from the convertible top, there aren't too many other changes for the 2017 Evoque Convertible.
The sharper front bumper and new headlights with integrated LED running lights were introduced in the 2016 Evoque.
To make space for the convertible top, Land Rover shrunk the Evoque Convertible's trunk to a small but still relatively capacious 8.9 cubic feet.
The 2017 Evoque Convertible features the same refreshed interior seen on 2016 models. The instrument panel, door panels and seats were all updated as part of the midcycle refresh.
The information display between the gauges has always been a bit of a low-tech job, but it's finally been upgraded to look less like a cell phone from the early 2000s.
At the center of the dashboard lies Land Rover's InControl Touch Pro, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It's the first time this system has been implemented on a Land Rover model.
Terrain of all kinds won't be a problem for the Evoque Convertible's all-wheel-drive system. It is a Land Rover, after all, and it still comes with a multi-terrain switch that alters vehicle performance to suit different environments.
InControl Touch Pro lacks both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.
However, it does include a Wi-Fi hotspot, built-in navigation and a corresponding smartphone app that allows users to change various vehicle settings remotely.
The rear seat's center section is barely wide enough for a set of skis, nevertheless a full human being.
In the event of a rollover, two aluminum bars will appear behind the rear seats just 90 milliseconds after the car's sensors detect trouble.
The Evoque Convertible will not go on sale until spring 2016 or so, in 170 markets worldwide.
The Evoque Convertible is priced from $50,475, £47,500 or AU$84,440.
