Green bikes at the Tokyo Motor Show

If you're not green or deserve the prefix super, then you're nothing at this year's Tokyo Motor Show — motorbikes included.

During its 50-plus years on sale and with over 60 million sold worldwide, the Honda Cub is the most popular motorised vehicle in the world. Powered by an almost indestructible 49cc — 0.049 litres! — single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, the Cub has been dubbed the greatest motorcycle of all time by the Discovery Channel. Looking to the future, Honda is working on the idea of an electric Cub.

Working with a modern scooter design, Honda's EVE-neo is also battery powered.

Small and light, thanks to its aluminium frame, the EC-03 has a 0.6kW electric motor powered by Lithium-ion batteries.

With its x-shaped frame, the EC-f breaks away from traditional motorcycle design. This electric-powered commuter bike is designed for people with no previous riding experience.

Swapping white and lime green for black and silver, the EC-fs aims to be less chic, but classier.

Suzuki takes its Burgman scooter, a big, modern petrol-powered two-wheeler, and junks the fuel tank and petrol engine. In their place, it's fitted with a fuel cell to power an electric motor.
