Ford immortalizes its latest GT racer in Lego form
To celebrate its return to Le Mans, Ford commissioned a Lego replica of the car it will run in one of motorsport's most prestigious events.
You're not going to see this kit offered up for sale on Lego's website, that's for sure.
This is an entirely custom build, put together by a professional builder.
After deciding on the model's scale, the builder used computer modeling to generate the overall shape and layout of the bricks.
However, he did freehand the wheels.
The result is a bit like an old digital image -- a little on the blocky side, but all the important stuff is right there.
There's no interior, as the inside of the model is devoted entirely to structural support.
A model this big gets heavy, and fast.
If you're lucky enough to be in France for this year's Le Mans, poke your head around and see if you can scope this model with your own eyes.
Will Ford's return to Le Mans come with a bit of domination? We'll find out this weekend!
The builder also put together a scale model of Ford's original GT40, which won Le Mans in a hardly believable 1-2-3 finish, something that hasn't been repeated for 50 years.
