Ford Edge reaches for premium car market (pictures)
With a new design emphasizing airiness and upscale cabin appointments, the new Ford Edge competes with cars in the premium segment.
The Edge is Ford's five-passenger crossover, not to be confused with the Escape, which also seats five. The Edge is a bit larger and, for the 2015 model year, more opulent.

A camera mounted in the grille makes for contact-free parking.
Ford offers three engines for the Edge. This one, barely filling the engine compartment, is a 2-liter four-cylinder with turbocharging and direct injection.
The Edge measures just over 15 and a half feet long, similar to most midsize sedans.
The Edge can be had in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with any of the engine options.
The 2-liter engine gives the Edge fuel economy of 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
Ford equips the Edge with its "kick" tailgate, letting drivers kick a foot under the back of the car to activate the automated tailgate.
With the rear seats down, the Edge offers 73.4 cubic feet of cargo space, and an ample 39.2 cubic feet with the rear seats up.
