Ferrari FF four-seater put through its paces in globe-trotting video

Those who thought the Ferrari FF's four-wheel-drive feature was a gimmick had better think again -- the car's being rigorously tested on some of the world's harshest roads.

The Ferrari FF is coming along in leaps, bounds and eye-popping sideways drifts. The development mule, an advanced prototype and a final production model of the car have been filmed strutting their stuff around various test tracks and, in our office at least, tongues were a-lollin'.

The car was filmed gracing the dirt roads of Tierra Del Fuego, on the southern tip of Argentina; drifting its backside off on the harsh, snowy plains of Arvinsjaur, Sweden; testing its grip levels on the wet circuit at Pirelli's Vizzola proving grounds in Italy; and even visiting Santa's hometown in Ivalo, Lapland.

The purpose of these tests was to gauge how well the car handles on a variety of surfaces and assorted weather conditions. Obviously, we weren't on hand to test the FF for ourselves, so we can't tell you how it performed, but looking at the footage, it seemed to cope admirably. The FF didn't seem to have any problem clawing its way across snow, ice and water, and looks thoroughly capable of rally-style sideways drifts when the need calls for it.

Towards the end of the video, the car is seen charging around on the Fiat group's Circuito di Balocco test track, proving it can mix it up on tarmac, too. The FF uses an enormous 6-litre V12 engine providing 651bhp at 8,000rpm and 684Nm of torque. Those numbers translate to a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 208mph -- not bad for a four-seater hatchback, eh?

Ferrari's not yet confirmed a release date or price for the FF, but the car will be on show at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, where we'll be on it like a particularly itchy rash. Click through the photo gallery above for a closer look, then watch the video of it being totally badass below.
