Equinox ready to duke it out with the competition
A 400-pound weight loss and a slick new design puts the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox on a par with other crossovers.
The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox has been redesigned to be 400 pounds lighter.
While that's a huge amount of weight to lose, it just means the Equinox is now in the same weight class as rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.
The Equinox can be had with three engine options. Our test model has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, good for 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.
A 1.6-liter diesel and 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder will soon be available.
Adaptive cruise control is not available on any trim line of the Equinox. (Insert sad trombone sound here.)
The top-end Premier trim gets blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert standard.
However, low speed collision alert and braking, lane departure warning and lane keep assist as well as surround view cameras and a haptic seat are part of the $1,895 Comfort and Convenience II package.
The Equinox starts at $23,580 but our test model in the Premier trim adds up to $39,045.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the MyLink infotainment system, as is a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
