The Volkswagen GTE is only available in Germany right now, so we made the trip to Wolfsberg to try it out.
Meet the Volkswagen GTE, the company's new plug-in hybrid Golf.
Like the name suggests, it's a variation of the GTI, the company's iconic hot-hatch.
Blue highlights and GTE branding set the car apart from the GTI and diesel-powered GTD.
Flush, aerodynamic wheels are also standard fare.
The car is available as a five-door, with comfortable seating in the rear as well as the front.
The plug-in charger is neatly hidden behind the VW logo. Very neat trick.
A 6.5-inch infotainment system dominates the center stack. It has a touchscreen and proximity detection that can tell when you're reaching for it.
Mode buttons cycle the drivetrain, and of course the crucial engine start/stop button.
A double-clutch DSG is standard.
No tacho here, instead a "Power Meter" like on the e-Golf.
Interior controls are standard VW.
Plenty of buttons to keep your hands where they belong -- on the wheel.
Plaid interior? Check, it is a GTI after all.
Not your average engine compartment. A little busier than most!
