Classic coupe formula makes the Mercedes-Benz E400 gorgeous
Two doors and no pillars give the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe beautiful lines, and virtually no competitors in its class as other automakers add doors and hatchbacks.
Among the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the E-Class sits between the C and S-Class sedans, but Mercedes-Benz also offers the E-Class as a coupe, convertible and wagon. Mercedes-Benz's coupe lineup is a bit more expansive, so the E-Class Coupe sits below the CLS-Class, which, in turn, comes in under the S-Class Coupe.
Competitors in the premium segment have largely discontinued coupes of this size, leaving the E-Class Coupe somewhat on its own.
In the US, Mercedes-Benz sells the E-Class Coupe as the E400 Coupe, with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Only one engine, a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, is available.
The 2018 E400 Coupe follows a major update for the E-Class in the 2017 model year.
The E400 Coupe comes with an adaptive suspension, which can adjust for comfort or sport-oriented driving.
The Mercedes-Benz takes full advantage of the coupe format, giving the E400 Coupe a beautiful design, with pillarless side openings.
One sacrifice owners will need to make comes in passenger capacity, which maxes out at five for the E400 Coupe. As a two-door vehicle, rear seat access is not easy.
Mercedes-Benz has refined its grille in recent years, going to a single blade across its badge.
The turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine makes 329 horsepower. By contrast, the E-Class sedan only comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, making 241 horsepower.
Mercedes-Benz equips the E400 Coupe with four drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. The latter gives the car a drastically different feel from the rest.
