Cadillac CT6: Powerful elegance (pictures)

Cadillac may be a byword for luxury, but the company has lacked a large sedan in recent years. At the New York auto show, it filled that gap with the all-new CT6, a high-tech luxury ride.

The CT6 shows muted styling from the Cadillac's earlier, bolder Art and Science design language. The CT6 takes cues from the more recent ATS model.

The CT6 shows simplified styling up front, with only three bars in the grille and no chrome trim for the headlight casings.

Cadillac will offer three engines for the CT6. The top option, shown here, is a 3-liter V-6 with twin turbochargers, making 400 horsepower.

As part of its tech-forward features, the CT6 comes with LED headlights, complementing the vertical LED light pipes integrated with the headlight casings.

An adaptive suspension using electro-magnetic dampers lets the driver change the ride quality from comfort to stiff.

Buyers can opt for 18-, 19- and 20-inch wheels.

A four-wheel-steering system angles the rear wheels based on steering input, improving the CT6's turning radius.

A wing window at the rear of the cabin hints at the large seating area inside, with plenty of room for back seat passengers.

The CT6 is built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, but Cadillac will offer an all-wheel-drive version.

Interior luxury has been a hallmark of Cadillac for decades, and the CT6 exhibits this trait with solid and comfortable coachwork.

Satin finish wood trim is a nice touch in this example. Cadillac moved its seat controls to the door, similar to Mercedes-Benz, making for each access.

Cadillac loads the steering wheel with buttons for driver assistance and cabin tech features. The instrument cluster uses an LCD panel.

A touchpad on the console controls cabin tech features on the car's 10.2-inch touchscreen, allowing drivers to select menus and input alphanumeric characters by tracing.

The home screen for the Cadillac User Experience, or CUE, shows icons for the all the major features. It reacted quickly to user inputs on the show floor.

Navigation is included in the system, as is OnStar, which offers concierge destination look-ups and a 4G WiFi hotspot.

The Panaray audio system by Bose comes with 34 speakers around the cabin.
