Byton packs the next decade's tech into electric SUV

Chinese startup automaker Byton showed off its first car at CES 2018. Although referred to as a concept car, the timeline for production in 2019 makes it seem more like a prototype.

As an electric vehicle, Byton will offer this car with a 250-mile or 325-mile battery pack, each capable of fast charging, which can add 150 miles range in 20 minutes.

Along with its electric drive, the Byton car will incorporate self-driving technology.

Much of the technology in the Byton car will be designed to enhance the passenger experience.

The level of detail on this prototype suggests a lot of thought has gone into production.

The clean, passenger-focused cabin should make journeys more comfortable, especially when the car drives itself.

A planned 5G data connection will keep passengers entertained and connected.

Because of its electric platform, Byton says it can also build a sedan or other vehicle types.

What Byton calls smart surfaces up front include lighting elements designed to communicate with people outside the car.

LED headlights allow for slim openings up front, which should also produce better aerodynamic performance.
