2023 Range Rover Sport Tackles Tarmac and Trail With Plug-In Power
The latest-generation of Land Rover's luxurious Range Rover Sport SUV proves capable on- and off-road with new mild and plug-in hybrid powertrain options.
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport scales up for the 2023 model year and streamlines its design.
Most of the new model's increased overall length comes from the wheelbase, which has been stretched nearly 3 inches.
The midsize luxury SUV is more spacious inside, but the biggest changes can be found in the engine bay.
The new base powerplant is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with a standard 48-volt mild hybrid system.
The spec that most interests me, however, is the P440e Autobiography plug-in hybrid.
The PHEV model mates the inline-six with a 105-kW electric motor for a total of 434 horsepower.
Enough energy is stored in the P440e's 32-kWh battery pack for around 48 miles of urban electric cruising.
Regardless of the powertrain chosen, every spec features the same eight-speed automatic transmission and off-road capable all-wheel-drive system.
For the first year of production, Land Rover will also offer a limited Range Rover Sport P530 First Edition model powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8.
