2022 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS: Hella Good

The 2022 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS is the Goldilocks model of the 911 range.

It offers the standard Targa's exceptional looks and cool roof, but with a ton of extra performance.

That performance gives it near-GT3 levels of power and way more torque than Porsche's more track-focused 911.

The 2022 GTS makes a healthy 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

The GTS trim also nets you a ton of standard performance equipment like a lowered suspension and reduced weight.

My test vehicle is equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission, though an eight-speed PDK unit is also available.

The stick in the 911 is classic Porsche -- crisp, accurate, notchy and rewarding to use.

Going GTS also gets you a bunch of blacked-out trim, which works especially well in the Targa, with the flat black Targa bar offering a subtly more aggressive look.

The 2022 911 gets updated infotainment with the addition of Android Auto for the first time.
