2022 Acura MDX Type S Has Performance to Back Up Its Style
The MDX, now in its fourth generation, is the first SUV to ever wear the red S.
Not just a sporty style upgrade, the MDX backs up its new badge with overhauled performance.
The base 3.5-liter V6 has been swapped for a turbocharged 3.0-liter unit with fortified internals and improved cooling.
The three-row SUV now makes 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque.
The automaker's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system is standard equipment along with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Standard 21-inch wheels make room for 14.3-inch Brembo front rotors with large, 4-piston calipers.
The SUV rides on an adjustable air suspension with electronically controlled dampers. The ride height can be lowered by 0.6 inches for sporty driving or raised by 2.0 inches for improved clearance.
The Type S also upgrades to a quad-tip active exhaust with a sporty, yet still understated tone.
