2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road: A pickup for traditionalists

Toyota updated the Tacoma lineup last year providing key technology updates to keep the midsize pickup competitive. 

The most noteworthy improvement was the arrival of standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa capabilities in all Tacoma models.

On most Tacoma models including the TRD Off-Road trim, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard. 

The TRD Off-Road is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine making 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. 

When paired with the available six-speed automatic transmission, the Tacoma TRD Off-Road returns and EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. 

For traditionalists, Toyota does off the Tacoma TRD Off-Road with a six-speed manual transmission.

To improve it's off pavement chops, the Toyota gives the TRD Off-Road a specific suspension with Bilstein shocks and more aggressive Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure tires. 

Toyota says the Tacoma TRD Off-Road is capable of towing up to 6,400 pounds and has a payload rating of 1,155 pounds,

To look the part, the Tacoma TRD Off-Road gets a gray grille, color-keyed outside mirrors and black fender trim on the outside.
