2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4S: Serious good looks and performance

A new Targa 4 and Targa 4S joins the Porsche 911 lineup for the 2021 model year. 

The range-topping Targa 4S features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six making 443 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. 

In this test car, the engine works with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that routes power to all four wheels.

The drivetrain returns an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

Porsche says the Targa 4S can hit 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, cover the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph. 

To improve handling, the 911 Targa 4S comes standard adaptive dampers and torque vectoring rear differential.

To further improve handling, the Targa 4S can be optioned with rear axle steering. 

The automatic Targa top goes up and down in 19 seconds and can only be operated when the car is stationary.

Unlike the 911 Cabriolet, the Targa's rear glass helps maintain the sleek silhouette of the coupe.

The 2021 Porsche 911 Targa 4S begins at $138,550, including $1,350 for destination.
