2020 BMW X6 M Competition: Big time performance and luxury

With the arrival of the third-generation X6, BMW is rolling out a new range-topping X6 M Competition model that offers more performance and special styling touches.

Compared to the 600-horsepower X6 M, the Competition version features 617 horses from the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. Torque for both models rings in at 553 pound-feet.

Routing power to all four wheels is a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. 

BMW says the X6 M Competition is capable of hitting 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which betters the standard X6 M by one-tenth of a second.

The X6 M Competition has a top speed of 155 mph, but increases to 177 with an available M Driver's Package that also includes a day at the M Driving School located in California or South Carolina.

For a slightly meaner soundtrack, the X6 M Competition comes standard with the M Sport Exhaust system.

To improve handling, the Competition rides on larger 21-inch wheels in front and 22-inch wheels in back.

Also visually setting the Competition apart are black kidney grille frame, mirror caps, badges, rear diffuser and exhaust outlets. 

The plush interior features standard Merino leather, M steering wheel, carbon fiber trim and supportive M seats.

The 2020 BMW X6 M Competition starts at $118,595, including $995 for destination.
