The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas is spacious and affordable
VW's three-row SUV offers a low base price with some of the best cargo space and standard tech in the class.
The Volkswagen Atlas was introduced for the 2018 model year, so not much is new for 2019.
Base prices range from $30,895 to $48,395 plus $995 for destination.
Most of the lineup features a 3.6-liter VR6 engine with 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.
The base Atlas features a 2.0-liter turbocharged, four-cylinder engine good for 22/26 city/highway mpg.
The four-cylinder comes only with front-wheel drive, while the VR6 can power just the front or all four wheels. All Atlas models are equipped with eight-speed automatic transmissions.
There's enough room inside the Atlas for up to seven occupants.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink come standard on a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while higher trims use an 8-inch unit.
Out back, there's up to 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space, which is nearly at the top of the class.
Standard safety features include collision-mitigation braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rain-sensing wipers.
